Fly fishing and fly tying can be described as an art form, man against his quarry, taking a hook,
fur and feather and turning into an offering which your prey thinks is edible. Making it look right to the fish, not the angler
is what is important.
It is all about triggers,
- what makes a fish take an artificial fly and not a real one?
- is it the right size, colour and shape?
- is the natural insect sitting on, in or under the waters surface ?
All these things can make a difference, but artificial flies can be made to replicate any of these
situations.
There are thousands of flies to choose from, many different styles and designs, anything from a tiny
Adams dry fly, to a large Zug Bug. There are not only different sizes, but different weights of wet flies/nymphs, right
down to the real heavyweights , the Czech and Polish nymphs.
I can produce flies to suit all situations.You can select from large to micro dries,
spider patterns, nymphs un-weighted and weighted. You can have your flies weighted with lead wire, plastic beads, brass beads,
tungsten beads, or a combination of both if you wish. All my flies are tied on quality hooks and you can choose from micro
barb or barbless.
Also I can supply salmon and seatrout flies , on either single, double or treble hooks, including
snake flies.

Graying flies are a speciality of mine, anything from a traditional Red
Tag or Grayling Witch, to the heavyweight Czech and Polish nymphs can be replicated in any weight you want, from a few wraps
of lead, to tungsten gold, copper and black heads, with lead wraps aswell to get them down fast.

Spider patterns look one of the simplest flies ever made, but looks can be deceiving,
spiders are one of the oldest flies going, some of the patterns are hundreds of years old.
There are literally thousands of patterns to choose from and several different
styles, North Country and Clyde Style.

Custom Tied Flies
If you have a particular fly in mind, or an old favourite pattern you can no longer get
hold of, if you can describe the pattern to me I can re-create it for you, the fly tied to your personel specification.
If you think you have a fly pattern that might work better, with a little of this , or
a little of that in the pattern, no problem, it could possibly give you that edge, the only person using that given fly pattern,
let your imagination run wild !!!
If you would like a selection of flies as a present for someone, or a range to get you
started out fly fishing, I will supply you with a presentation set, in a quality fly box ( engraved if you wish).
I can also supply a set of framed flies, you say which flies you would like and
leave the rest to me.

Fly Tying, Fly Casting and Fly Fishing
If you would like to know more about any of the above, please feel free to get in touch.

catch it day", where I teach you how to make your own flies, teach you to cast a fly, or improve your fly casting, then go
out and catch a fish on what you have learnt.
The sense of satisfaction from catching a fish on a fly you have made, will stay with
you forever.

Braid Czech Nymphing Leaders
I make and supply my own braid Czech Nymph leaders, for optimum
sensitivity. You can feel every bump and knock, as your fly trundles along the river bed. Once you are really in tune with the technique, you can actually feel a fish pick and mouth your fly -
a definite advantage, when Czech Nymphing for finnicky grayling.
